Coming soon - a blog of lessons learned over 30 years of working
Welcome to Three Cheese Pizza 🍕
On December 2023, I hit a wild professional milestone: 30 years working as a UX professional. It's mind-boggling to me. I still remember not knowing how to answer the question, what's your five-year plan? I could barely fathom what my world would like five years ahead, and now I have 30 years in my rear-view mirror.
Milestones tend to inspire some introspection and in that vein, it got me thinking, have I learned anything useful from working these past 30? I have. And it was surprisingly gratifying to think about these things since they don't normally come up in my normal day-to-day. So I started to write some of these things down and I realized, there's gotta be people out there who would benefit from these thoughts, or at least find them interesting. So (13 months later), I'm finally putting pen to paper (or more accurately, thoughts to keyboard) and sharing out my work life lessons in the form of this blog.
Because my experience has primarily been in UX (i.e., user experience research and design, human factors engineering...) and in technical domains, the things I share will have that slant. But my goal is to transcend these specific areas and and talk about things that would be useful in a more general sense. I've been lucky to work as an IC (individual contributor), a low/mid-level manager, a director, and ultimately, run a company (albeit a small one) so I think I'll be able to draw an interesting variety of insights and lessons learned.
So this is what we can look forward to! We'll see where all this goes. One thing I've certainly learned, you need to be able to change course as circumstances change. So, who knows, I may end up writing about match reports for Arsenal FC or reviewing my favorite pizzas!
Till the next time!
Musings huh? I’ve been doing monthly musings for work since 2005! Twenty years!
